Happy Halloween!
Evelyn has been so excited to dress up in her (she called it) butterfly costume! Mamaw made this cute outfit and she has been running around flapping her wings for weeks. Evelyn caught sight of it hanging in my closet last week and was begging to put it on. Mean Mommy that I am (or stain and rip paranoid Mommy), made her wait until today.
She was adorable!
Her brothers have been helping her for several days understand what Halloween is about. When you say "trick or treat" someone gives you candy. She's had the 'trick or treat' line down for days but I was really surprised to see she would actually say it to strangers today.
We went to the Delta where our friends live and Evelyn had a blast (okay, so did I)! She ran the whole way for the first two blocks-her idea. We hit most of the neighborhood and she went to just about every door and politely asked for candy. She tended to say please more often than she said Trick or Treat, but she always said 'Thank you', usually in sing song. After one of the doors asked our group of kids for a trick (which left all 5 kids unsure of what to do next) Evelyn told the next door just "treat", I think she was done with tricks.
She turned away from one when she realized the person handing out candy was wearing a scary mask; and she didn't like having to walk under any decorated archways to get to the door. When her legs got tired she made Cliff and I both hold a hand and carry her like she was flying. After my arms couldn't take it anymore, she went door to door on Cliff's shoulders. What a good Daddy.
Oh yes, she knows exactly what candy is!
